About Us

IIS History

Iringa International School was started in 1993 by a group of expatriate and local parents in Iringa to provide a sound education of international standard for children in the Southern Highlands region of Tanzania.

Iringa is a friendly and warm community. Our school offers small class sizes with dedicated and experienced teachers. We provide a safe and inviting environment for all families. We believe in inclusive learning, building on our students’ prior learning, as well as valuing their life experiences. Our school is committed to creating a better world through community service and respect for diversity.

IIS is guided by a Board of Trustees and a Head of School. A Board of Management is an elected group of parents who work in cooperation with the Head of School.

The school started as a Primary School with 12 Students and two full-time teachers and has since added on Pre-School, Middle School, ‘O’ levels (Key Stages 1 – 4) and boarding facilities.

IIS has been authorized as an official Cambridge International School. Currently, we offer IGCSE and are able to offer A level courses when the requisite number of students enrol. We are an IB authorized school for the Primary Years Programme for children aged 3 – 11.

School Facilities

There is a library and laptop computers with internet access, modest football, basketball, and volleyball grounds, as well as playgrounds for the Pre-School, Primary and Secondary Schools.

The faculty and parent volunteers offer a variety of after school clubs ranging from dance to book club, art club, as well as football, basketball, gymnastics and community service.

If you would like to study in a school that focuses on changing the world for a better tomorrow, you’re choosing the right place. We do not use special formulas to select students. We look at every single applicant’s application, academic and personal, to select students who suit our community.

Our Mission

To maintain the historical mission of the founders, by continuing to provide the children of local and expat families, with a high-quality education that will equip them to successfully lead, create and innovate positive developments in a consistently developing world.

Our Vision

To unite the knowledge, skills, talents and labor of the Iringa International Schools staff, students, parents and community, in helping to create one of the best schools in Tanzania.

IIS Philosophy

At Iringa International School, we believe that “Together, We Can Do More”

Mr. Rasul A. Yamungu

Head of School

Karibu (Welcome)

Allow me to introduce myself as the 2021-2022 newly appointed Head of School, Rasul A. Yamungu. I would like to be the first to welcome you and your family to the Iringa International School’s website. We are honored and delighted you have taken time out of your day to learn more about our school.

As the Head of School, it is my personal responsibility to provide both students and staff, with the best possible learning environment our school can provide. However, the success of my role is built on the collective efforts of a fantastic group of teachers, a dynamic staff and engaged parents.

The Iringa International School prides itself on providing our students with a rigorous, yet balanced education that focuses on developing the whole child, both academically and socially. Our academic program incorporates the International Baccalaureate curriculum for our primary or PYP year students, and the Cambridge International curriculum for our lower and upper secondary students. We are confident that both curricular programs provide students with a solid foundation for academic success. This success will allow them to compete equally as global citizens in a consistently demanding world for graduates with an internationally recognized education.

In developing our students socially, we value the international part of our name as a social responsibility to help our students learn to appreciate the diverse world in which they live. Each day we cultivate an environment where students from various countries, learn, play, and grow together, while developing lifelong friendships. Our small class sizes, safe and intimate campus setting and uniform-free dress code, are additional benefits that help create an environment and culture of teaching & learning, welcomeness, and belonging.

It’s my hope that you will continue to preview our website and strongly consider us as a viable option for your child’s primary and secondary education. If you have any questions or would like to know more, please feel free to call or email us.

Thank you again for giving us your time and we look forward to meeting you soon.
