Iringa International School was started in 1993 by a group of expatriate and local parents in Iringa to provide a sound education of international standard for children in the Southern Highlands region of Tanzania.
Iringa is a friendly and warm community. Our school offers small class sizes with dedicated and experienced teachers. We provide a safe and inviting environment for all families. We believe in inclusive learning, building on our students’ prior learning, as well as valuing their life experiences. Our school is committed to creating a better world through community service and respect for diversity.
IIS is guided by a Board of Trustees and a Head of School. A Board of Management is an elected group of parents who work in cooperation with the Head of School.
The school started as a Primary School with 12 Students and two full-time teachers, and has since added on a Pre-School, Middle School, ‘O’ levels (Key Stages 1 – 4) and boarding facilities.
IIS has been authorized as an official Cambridge International School. Currently we offer IGCSE and are able to offer A level courses when the requisite number of students enroll. We are an IB authorized school for the Primary Years Programme for children aged 3 – 11.
There is a library and laptop computers with internet access, modest football, basketball, and volleyball grounds, as well as playgrounds for the Pre-School, Primary and Secondary Schools.
The faculty and parent volunteers offer a variety of after school clubs ranging from dance to book club, art club, as well as football, basketball, gymnastics and community service.
If you would like to study in a school that focuses on changing the world for better to morrow, you’re choosing the right place. We do not use special formulas to select students. We look at every single applicant’s application, academic and personal, to select students who suit to our community.
To maintain the historical mission of the founders, by continuing to provide local families and the expat communities children, with a high quality education that will make them global assets to a consistently developing world.
To unite the knowledge, skills, talents and labor of the Iringa International School staff, students, parents and community, and create one of the best schools in Tanzania.
At Iringa International School, we believe that “Together, We Can Do More”
Allow me to introduce myself, as the newly appointed Head of School, Mr. Rasul A. Yamungu. I would like to be the first to welcome you and your family to the Iringa International School’s website. We are honored and delighted you have taken time out of your day to learn more about our school.
As the Head of School, it is my personal responsibility to provide both students and staff, with the best possible learning environment our school can provide. However, the success of my role is built on the collective efforts of a fantastic group of teachers, a dynamic staff, and supportive and engaged parents.
The Iringa International School prides itself on providing our students with a rigorous, yet balanced education that focuses on developing the whole child academically and socially. As both an International Baccalaureate school for our primary or PYP year students, and a Cambridge International School for our lower secondary and upper secondary students. We are confident that both curricular programs provide our students with the right foundation. Allowing them to compete equally as global citizens in a consistently demanding world for graduates with an internationally recognized education.
In addition to student academics, we also value the international part of our name as a social responsibility to help our students learn to appreciate the diverse world in which they live. This is why we also pride ourselves on having students from numerous countries, learning, playing, and growing together, while developing lifelong friendships.
Our small class sizes, intimate and safe campus settings, and a uniform-free dress code, are additional benefits that help create an environment and culture of teaching & learning, welcomeness, and belonging.
It’s my hope that you will continue to preview our website and strongly consider us as a viable option for your child’s primary and secondary education. If you have any questions or would like to know more, please feel free to call or email us.
Thank you again for giving us your time and we look forward to meeting you soon.
